Good to here you got a nice Xmas gift. Lots of info here. Before replacing the starter try cleaning the internal parts and lubing the gears with some fresh grease. They are probably covered in the original grease. There is a write up in the how to articles :D

Well! who is that kid with that new bike for Christmas? I bet you have miles of smiles with your new toy. Congratulations and enjoy it to the fullest. I just hope your weather eventually gets rid of that white stuff, and it turns into summer soon - but not too soon, so that you have enough time to do the servicing over the winter.

Welcome to the best site around. My 1100 right trunk lid got replaced by the previous owner, and so one of the first things I did was go to http://rudysproducts.com/index_store.html and get a set of "keepers" for the 1100. Side panels and trunk lids have a tendency to go AWOL without warning.
Again, welcome.

Take a look under the left side panel to see if the plug has been removed and the yellow wires soldered. Lots of information about that common problem. Probably a thing or two I'm forgetting. Little things which have been proven to be problems in an otherwise perfect machine. Probably time for timing belts.
Visit this site often, very good helpful people. I rode a 79 1000 which is very similar to yours. About 30,000 miles of almost perfect service. Very trouble free. The man who has my old bike continues to ride it now and it's still doing fine. Good luck and welcome to the group.

Welcome to the board. What are you getting for New Years? Pretty nice Christmas gift. I am guessing someone had pre-knowledge or you gave it to yourself!

Hello halcombrick,
here a welcome from Cuijk in the Netherlands Europe.
And also a hello to everyone else on Goldwingdocs.
This will be my first response on Goldwingdocs , so I am as green as you are.
I'm not only green on this site but on a motorcycle also.
In the 80's I tried to get my liscence but couldn't finish it because I hade to go on the road again being a trucker.
Back then I already dreamed of an Goldwing and last december a was abel to buy a GL1100 D 1982 :) .
In the same colour as your's. So you understand why your title got my attention.
The first owner had put on a set of trunks from a 1200 on the 1100 as you can see on my foto.
It's not original but it looks good.
I hope you will have as much fun riding the bike as I already have had and evenso enjoy the work to personalise it.

I appologize for my english for not being as correct as I would like it to be and wish all of you the best for 2015.
Greatings,

Peer, welcome from the Deep Deep South, but still North of the 49th :D

Your English is better than my Dutch, and as long as you can be understood, you will do fine. There is a translater on Google, that will translate most to most, but sometimes it gets stuck on some of the jargon that is used around motorcycles, but we can usually work our way through it. Enjoy your winter, and have fun in the Summer!

Enjoy your GW, and it does not matter

Hey Len,
thanks for your welcome and your compliments on my english; I'll try my best.
It happen to be that my dear friend and neighbour lived for years down under, so if I get stuck I'll ask her.
But your advise for Google will be followed as well. :)
