Critter Crashes

Post by seelyark1 » Tue Jan 27, 2015 9:44 am

This article is from another site, but well worth the read. Has some good info and hints on how to avoid some of the "chance meetings" with animals while on a bike. I had another one cross about thirty feet in front of me last night  Absolutely no time to react, just there it was. :o  ... motorcycle
Hope you can get to this site to be able to read it. :)

Ride safe, and smart. Asphalt is like #1 grit sandpaper. Dave

Speaking from my experience with deer and motorcycles, there is some sound advice in that article. Never underestimate the stupidity and unpredictability of a deer. 8-)

Deer have astonishing reflexes, incredible senses of sight, smell & hearing, and are...dumb as soup. One almost killed me in a collision with my (previous) bike. Not fun at all. I'd always figured that dusk and dawn were the scary times, but this one (a large buck) tagged me in broad daylight, middle of the afternoon.

They make good soup too..... I ran over a skunk this afternoon. thankfully he was road kill and I didn't see him in time to react due to the PU I was following. I have had some close calls with deer on bikes, but never hit one. I did hit one with my PU last year.
