Used to wear leather, but have gone to textiles now, as there's the option for hot-weather riding (mesh outer, while still having armor protection).

Of course, wearing full leather is a little outdated fashion-wise, unless you're on a monster crotch rocket (full, color-matched leather, with lots of faux sponsor patches & a built-in hunchback) or a HD.

Leather DOES resist abrasion (as in, "road rash" prevention) better than textiles, though. If textiles hadn't evolved to where they are now, I'd still be wearing leather.

I always wear full gear. On one memorable occasion last summer (while I was waiting for my new Joe Rocket mesh Goldwing jacket to arrive) I rode home from work in shirtsleeves, for the first time ever. The temp was over 90F, I was already overheated from a full day at work (driving a van with non-operational AC), and was going to be sitting in rush hour traffic for quite a while.

That whole ride, I was nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Now that I have my "air conditioned" jacket, I'll never even think of doing that again.

Wore leather years ago, but switched to armored textiles about 12 years ago, and that's now all I wear. Armored mesh in the summer. The textile gear is far more flexible in terms of temperature ranges in which it can be worn, and more comfortable. They also give you a lot more storage - the Olympia pants I wear have a big pocket on the top of each thigh that makes it very easy to get things out, even wearing gloves.

Leather chaps, textile jacket.

Got the chaps when I first started riding (not that long ago), and haven't had a good reason to replace them. If the need ever does arise to replace them I will probably go textile.

I have a leather jacket, but it is way too hot for summer riding. After trying a couple others I've finally settled on a textile one from TourMaster. It breathes really well so it isn't hot during the summer, and has two zip-out liners (one quilted, one rain shell) so it's still warm during the colder months.
Every day is a good day for a bike ride. Some days are just better than others.

Yes I still wear leather when it's cold.Jacket and chaps that I've had for 25+ years.I have a Goldwing mesh jacket but don't wear it all that much.I'm not and never will be a ATGATT rider.I wear what's comfortable for me at the time.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

I have 3 different sets of riding gear.

Each set has it's time and place, but by far my mesh gear sees the bulk of duty as it is the most versatile of the 3

Full leather (jacket and pants)....

Full Textile ....

and full mesh ....

Don't feel bad, that's how I've ridden for 45 years and don't plan to change anytime soon. Windshield comes way above my head so helmet is not a problem and not worn when not required by law. Any good day on the parkway 8 of 10 riders are dressed the same way. Guess that puts me in the 80% of idiots who just wants to enjoy the ride.

They even make a simulated leather (probably not the right wording but...) that is supposed to be stronger than real leather. They say real leather can have flaws in it and it varies in strength.

I like textiles and the ballastic nylons can be incredibly strong depending on what the rating is. Like close to leather in abrasion resistance. And CE rated armor is great for protection. I picked up a tourmaster intake 3 last season. Its a mesh jacket with armor and 1600 cordura at elbows and shoulders. Has zip out liners for warmth and rain so its a 3 season jacket. Cost was very low but jack is very nice. Have a more expensive Olympia jacket I got on closeout for half cost. Its a lot nicer than the tourmaster BUT the tourmaster is actually higher rated ballistic nylons. The one thing I like about the olympia jacket is it has back armor. Been thinking about adding one to the tourmaster jacket that only has padding.

I do wear leather boots and gloves always. Even in 90 degree heat my gloves and boots have never bothered me. I forget I'm wearing them. A jacket and helmet are another story. A good mesh jacket will move a ton of air so its like your not wearing a jacket **when** your moving. When your not you'll slow cook in 90 degree heat. Same with even premium full face helmets. I must have washed my liners 10 times last season. Anything below 87 degrees seems doable. I've thought about trying some of that cooling gear that you soak in water and it cools you down. I've read 2 drawbacks to that stuff. You end up damp from the moisture and its cooling effects last maybe an hour or so? It wouldn't work so good for commuting to the office but maybe on summer rides.

I wear both mesh and leather gear. Have leather jacket and chaps for cold and wet, mesh jacket with armor and a liner for the hot months and a leather jacket vented with liner for the milder months and cool evenings.

Leather or Armoured Textile all the way, top to bottom, but not all the time, as I should. Sometimes, around town, it is just jeans on the lower body, but still protective upper. Always over the ankle boots, and gloves or gauntlets. I need my feet and hands.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Leather or textiles, it depends on the weather, topped off with a Hi-Vis vest. If it's really cold I'll wear leather jeans with textile (Weiss waterproof) over trousers on top, if I'm riding the old BSA the extra padding comes in handy.

Have 3 goatskin jackets, with varying amounts of lining, newest one is probably at least 10 years old, & others are more like 35, years in sometimes heavy service. All still in good shape for their age, sounds like what's said about me when the younger ones try to be nice. Have a HEAVY black cowhide jacket & matching chaps I call my tux, for when it gets real cold, with full face helmet to match. With my bad neck don't go out in the 30's as the limit of what's too cold any more, the helmet hasn't been used for years, unless you count my leather one to cut the wind, old pilots one from military, my wife bought it years ago. Went to buy another, & NO LONGER AVAILABLE, haven't made in years, guess I got one of, if not the last one he had. Have several cloth helmet liners from work, adjusted to fit but goat skin leather one, is by far the best. Leather coats & other goods made of goat skin, shed water almost like plastic does, it gets heavier from the water, but you stay dry inside. Guess i'll stay with my coats, with wear on lining the wife will sew together to keep on the road.

Leather hi-top boots, leather chaps (I have used them over the last 30 years, never got out of that habit), summer is leather vest over hoodie, winter is textile jacket. If raining outside, chaps are off and textile pants are on (going with the textile jacket).
