"De Farkling" my 1990 Goldwing

Postby n5926g » Tue Mar 03, 2015 1:45 pm

Afternoon guys,In looking at Google Images of what my 1500 is supposed to look like,I find that the P/O added some aftermarket stuff to it,Primarily a chrome"light bar"(for lack of a better term) around the lower rear below the saddlebags, and there are swing out armrests for the Passengers seat, that I dont see in alot of those images..I am a stickler for OEM,and if it isnt OEM its GONE...Thing here is ,ALL this chrome stuff has rust on it,and looks nasty anyway...IF it IS OEM,I will remove it and do something.
anyone out there give me some insight here?

Post your stuff you're not needing in the "For Sale" section here. Don't forget clear pix's.

Mine is fairly OEM with the exception of the show chrome trim around the license plate. As mentioned if you can put the stuff up for sale you can probably make a little cash. Some of the farkles are no longer produced. Armrests aren't OEM but depends if you ride 2 up a lot and your passenger has last say!

I too am a stickler for OEM... BUT, when I got my bike, it had been soooo Personalized (if that's how you want to put it) that I decided that I was just gonna do something different. I decided I was gonna have some fun with the bike, so I painted it, and broke out the airbrush... got rid of the OEM stereo that only half worked and that I didn't have any of the headsets for and put in a nice bluetooth deck. I even um cut the saddle bag tops for more speakers. I ended up with a one of a kind, bike I really love. And the best part is, including what I paid for the bike and repairs (had to replace a head), net timing belts, etc, and a new front tire, I think I have 1200 bucks into it.

Is it perfect? Nope, is it dependable, safe, and comfortable.... Yup... Still need to get a seat done, change a cam seal and get a new rear tire, but it's an awesome little bike and it was cheap!

Just REALLY wish I could just put fuel in it,and fire it up,but she has sat for about 7 years.
Not going to "jump the gun" here, rather replace the timing belts, clean the tank, and check out the carbs. P/O,s home caught fire, and sadly he perished,Widow knew nothing about motorcycles, and sold both bikes(the other was a 76 KZ-1000) to a good friend of mine.He had no room for the Goldwing, and I made the offer of 200.00...Knowing that at the very least I could part it out.
Once I saw it "in person",I realized that most of the damage was just cosmetics..So far the only real heat damage is the windshield, and passengers seat.ALL electronics work including the CB radio.
I have a new windshield here now,and have bought a Factory service manual set.
Taking all the aftermarket stuff off this weekend. She is showing 75,000 and some change on the clock.....Tires fine......Gonna have some fun now!
