Carb removing tools?

Postby n5926g » Fri Mar 13, 2015 8:57 am

Mornin guys, going to tackle removing the carbs off my GL1500,and remember reading an article on the site about needing a couple of "special tools" IF memory serves,it was a LONG pair of needlenose pliers, and a LONG screwdriver...can anyone elaborate on this?
I plan a trip to Harbor Freight this weekend....Cheers

The most helpful tools I got.
The longest #2 Phillips I could find...I think it was 14-18"
The same length in a flat blade...not the pry bar looking monster one..this one is used to adjust the idle mix screws
A long handle needle nose pliers...they are angled on the end and again, about 14" long.

been awhile since I did mine:
Long needle nose pliers (straight and angled) you'll need it for the clamps and Vacuum hoses
Long Screw Driver ( 12-18") you'll need it for the carb clamps
long pry bar to pry the carbs out of the "isolators" ( make sure you replace the isolators ( the "rubber" hoses that attach the cabs to the intake manifolds)

the quality of the HF screw drivers are NOT the best ...that's why there is (2) choices above
purchased my re build kit from:

the pilot jets are very small ....make sure you follow instructions concerning the "o-rings" used in that area...if you can't get the PJets to "open up ...gotta buy new ones....

the carb Sync. is tough to do, the first time ...you may need some help and a very good flashlight...take your time and good luck!
