Who Influenced you ?

Post by littlebeaver » Fri Mar 27, 2015 9:49 am

So I am curious who influenced you to ride a motorcycle, I had several people influence me.... First guy was my brother John, Oh Mr. Bronson was a huge influence on me along with the two Chips guys,,, also when I was a kid we got to see Born Losers with Billy Jack at the Picture show,, downtown San Antonio, at the Texas theater... 10 years old and riding the bus downtown.. We went down there to see all the Kung fu movies and horror flicks.... I saw a movie with Mr. Brando in the Wild Ones...That was a influence...I remember my brothers first bike, I was about 5 years old, he got a nice red Honda 50 I think it was,, I'd love to hear who influenced you and why you ride..? At the age of 13 he actually let me take his 900 Kawa around the block...Oh my dear Lord....That was it....I was hooked.. also when I was downtown I had never seen so many guys in blue,,, Air Force dudes everywhere,,, Brackenridge Park was near our home on Woodlawn, the reason I mention this is because anyone of you that went Air force more than likely took basic training there... The Zoo and Park was full of the blue suits on the weekends..omg

Always was interested in 2-wheeled ANYTHING...since I can remember.

Biggest motorcycle influence?...I'll be dating myself:

Roger DeCoster...class act...I never could measure up.

A good friend gave me a ride home after school on his Honda and I burned my leg on the muffler. Swore I would never get on one of those dman things again.

Finally high school graduation rolled around and my mom gave me a couple hundred dollars for graduation and suggested that I get some wheels to go to and from a job. After a lot of checking around the only thing I could find that ran was a Honda 50. Ate my words and got a motorcycle. The guy at the dealer showed me the brakes, the twist throttle, and not much else and then I started off in traffic in Falls Church, VA with my mom following me in her car. It took 22 years before I took a real course on riding.

So it was my mom who influenced me to get into my passion of riding motorcycles.

I was always for riding, but my Dad was dead set against me ever getting a bike. He said that he and some of his buddies were all going to ride together, but my Dad didn't have the money right away to buy a bike. By the time that he did have the money all of his buddies were dead. It's a good thing that he passed away several years before my accident! I have always loved the look of the Gold Wing, and even tho we really don't have a show like CHIPS but at least they rode bikes. That's the closest I can get to influence.

I dont think I had an influence. When I was about 10yrs old I was visiting a friend and he had a little honda 50cc. I didn't want to ride it at first but they sort of pressured me into trying it. After 20 minutes I didn't want to get off of it. In the 70's I remember bikes all over the place while growing up. At age 26 I bought my first street bike. Been going ever since. At age 52 I am starting to get up there and realize its just a matter of time until I can't ride anymore. Hoping to add many more motorcycle memories between now and then.

Growing up in England watching motorcycle racing Barry Sheen. Seeing the Norton's triumph's on the road, i thought they were so cool but all i could afford was a Suzuki 250 what a great bike rode it all year, rain ,sleet, fog lol today almost fair weather rider lol ,no training back then as long you had car license you could ride up to 250 without motorcycle license.

Interesting conversation....who gave me influence?
- My dad used to ride a Honda 350.
- When I was making $ as a scorekeeper at a bowling alley, one of the members of the team that I scored on would give me a ride home on his Honda Silverwing.
- When I started out of manual peddling, I went Pugeot moped, and then bored it out to 45 mph....that was during high school.
- Leather, that influenced me, I liked BLACK and I was in the Bay Area of the Silver n' Black (Raiders)
- Got in some trouble, had a POC Harley that always broke, but that was my "rebel" days
- Cleaned myself up along with going to college for bachelors degree, and then mellowed out.....all at the same time, dropping the peeps that I rode with on the line above, and was a "Lone Wolf" for a while, but still rode.....gained an import vtwin.
- Met my GF, now wife, needed something "larger" even though I got her to ride on a vtwin, I moved to Touring, and that was history....

Always love the feeling....freedom, wind, speed, on my own, and music blaring from the speakers.....lots of people played in getting me here, thank you all!

My paternal grandparents influenced me. With their GL1000s, bought new. That's me on the '77 in the back, my brother on the '75 up front. They bought an '81 Interstate new also, but my jackass uncle claimed it, rode it from Florida to Alaska and wrecked it right after he got back.

I guess I always wanted to ride. But my greatest influence was "necessity"! I was working in Nassau Bahama Islands in 1968. The choices for transportation were walking, bus or taxi or I could buy a motorcycle. Guess which way I went...... A little Yamaha 2 stroke 250cc twin. That's where I had my first wreck too.....
