new Goldwing

Postby bill5447 » Tue Apr 14, 2015 12:05 am

Good evening one and all, my name is Bill and I have just purchased a 1985 Honda Goldwing Aspencade
which has 10,000 miles on her. I was told that she came out of storage, carbs cleaned, new gas after tank cleaned and oil changed. It does need a new back tire but all in all this bike is almost show room condition, it handles like a dream and is so quiet i can actually hear the radio
while going down the highway. My question to all is..should i replace the timing belts and the stator before i go on a short trip, 800 miles
round trip. Any help will be appreciated and also, I traded my 1999 Suzuki 1500 Intruder LC straight across for this Honda and I have no
regrets about it. Thank you in advance....Bill

Timing belts yes. Absolutely. Stator? No reason to replace in my opinion. Solder the three yellow wires and go on down the road. Congrats on the new ride.

After 30 years and low miles belts are a must, lots cheaper than a motor failure.

You need the new belts.

You are one lucky rascal to find that low mileage wing in that shape. :D Replace the timing belts as that is cheap insurance, and a good learning experience on a great bike. 8-) Do that and stay tuned to this site and learn more about your fine find.. Congrats! :D Enjoy it and learn from the guys here! Or gals.

I bought a 94 1500 last summer with 33K. I changed the timing belts due to the age. If you look in this chat forum Rock Auto has posted a discount code. They have your belts. Great time to save some money while added piece of mind to your new bike. Best of luck with it!

Avery big THGANK YOU to all for the good info on my 85 aspencade, I am having a new tire put on as
I write this and tomorrow the new timing belts go on, hopefully that will be all the needed work
that i will have to do and oh, I will solder the 3 yellow wires when I get it back and change the
oil and filter, I ran Rotella T6 in my other bike and plan to use it in this bike also. Again let me
say thank you to all who offered the very good info and I am sure as the miles go by I will have
other questions and concerns. Bill
