GL1000 Clutch Assembly

Postby GL1000-1976-SCX-593P » Fri Apr 17, 2015 11:40 am

Hi All, I am at the stage of assembling the clutch on a GL1000 engine, had some help from John at Wingovations regarding the plate size, Thanks for that John.
It turned out the engine had had a different size clutch fitted, its now back to the standard size with new Clutch and spacer plates.
My question is this I cant seem to find any information as to how tight the 6 x 6mm bolts & Springs should be that screw the lifter plate with the central bearing in it, I assume it is not locked down tight otherwisde the springs would not be doing anything???? but to be totally honest I dont have a clue.
I have torqued up the central nut with the lock tab. I have the manual and extensive service info but cant see it detailed anywhere.
Any Help regarding the above and any information as to how the clutch works would be most appreciated, I am just learning 1 step at a time.. this may be a long project!! nort sure if I will live long enough to finish it. :D :D :D

I do not know about this particular item, but usually, if there are no torque settings listed, then you torque to the standard torque for that size bolt. There should be some reference in your manual that tells you how much to torque 6mm bolts, as well as the other standard sizes contained in your model.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

According to octane's guide here...
Install the 6 bolts

NOTE:
Tighten the bolts in small increments
alternating bolts in a criss-cross pattern
to avoid breaking the plate
..and torque to 100-140 kg-cm / 87-121 in-lbs

Thats Great, Thanks very much, I have an inch, pounds torque wrench so I will give that a whirl, I have been torquing the bolts but two of them have snapped even though I put a little bit of grease on them, I had been warned about snapping the plate.
Cheers.
