Good morning dingdong, I have a 1999 1500SE, with 141,000. the best I get (if I drive the speed limits and not like a speed demon) I can get 40mpg. My normal average is in the 34-36 mpg range. with two on the bike and loaded down to max wt, highway traveling it get around 30-32 depending on wind direction.

MPG is about as varied as GW riders.
So many factors come into play.
- Street vs highway
- hot vs cold weather
- wind (speed and whether with or against)
- terrain (flat vs hills)
- weight on the bike
- tire pressure
- aggressiveness (take off and braking)

You can always play around with the variables to see how you can improve yours.

Most riders that I know don't worry about Miles per Gallon, but rather Smiles per Mile.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!

On my 91 if I keep it between 45-55mph I can avg about 39mpg's as my best so far. If I'm riding at around 65mph then the gas mileage falls to around 36mpg's.

1991 GL1500-I 171K (still all original except timing belts)
Austone rear, a rear Battlax up front (and oversize)
15W40 Diesel Oil, Chevron 400LE
_________________________________________
Flat lands I can range from 28 with eth-krap-anol to 51 with Regular gas.
In the mountains I've hit mid 70's mpg a few times so those fig'rs don't really count (just info).
MPG's 36-42 Ethanol, 44-51 Regular and hauling my 300-650 Lb trailer 32-42
My avg. 1-UP is around 42-47 and I'm just toot'n around 45 to 65 mph.
I try to be diligent on keeping the RPMs at/under 2750, around 2800 carbs suck more fuel.

I never figure mileage when there's high winds, to many variables.
Lots of different figures but whatever style of riding you do, there's some input for ya.

How do you enjoy the ride when you're worrying about fuel mileage? It's not a work truck.
I can tell when it's running good and when it needs fuel I put it in.Saying all that though it is a recreational vehicle for me.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

I have a 1999 SE with 153K. Most of my driving is solo with occasional jaunts with the wife on board. The worst mileage I got was 31.7. The best was 42.4 with the wife on a short trip. It averages about 36 and that is a combo of 70-75 mph freeway and then surface streets. Like some others, if I keep it below 70mph I go further.

a couple years ago me and a friend rode to Columbus, oh form Detroit, he rides an '89 1500 wing and I rode my '93. right around lima he pulls in for gas, strange cause we had filled our tanks before leaving. he's showing empty and I'm not far from the half full mark. by the time we get to Columbus he needs gas again and that's when it hits me and i say to him " put that thing in 5th gear, we are on the open road and mileage is more important than acceleration "
on the ride home he puts it in 5th and we are within a gallon of each other when we refueled. I'm not worried about how many mpg my wing gets and really don't keep up with the figures. if I ride the 750F or the super-k I'm going to rev the crap out of them in the name of fun so why worry about it when I'm on the wing when I'm just eating some miles
