CHROME WINDSHIELD TRIM [HOW TO GET IT ON ]

Postby brentsboats » Sun Apr 26, 2015 9:52 am

Ok ,i maybe going to far here adding some chrome to the windshield but i have to try .Bought a roll of 10 ft on ebay . Now someone out there needs to tell me the ez way to get it on . Because this stuff is closed so tight there is no way i can get more then a few inches on there. I even tried to open it up a little with a spoon ,but as soon as you attempt to add in to the windshield ur fingers cause it to clamp up again . And ideas people ?

Try a little of that slick hand soap along the edge of the windshield. It'll wash right off when you're done. Post some pics after you get it installed.

Put the trim in hot water (or warm sunshine if you have any), it softens the plastic and makes it easier to work.

ROAD TRIP!!!!
_________________________________________________________
It's hard to explain in writing, EZ'r in person... but here goes.
Open the trims end and get it on the shields edge.
__ Duct tape it if you need to, it may want to walk off.
__ Put it exactly where you want it, it's very difficult to move afterwards.
Push towards the shield and with a slight downward push.
__ This downward push helps opens the plastic slit.
__ As you push sometimes a little side-to-side rocking motion helps roll it on.

You can use a hair dryer on high heat to soften the trim as you push. (2 person job? oh KIDS!!!)
Do note: Anything that's in your direct view of the road will slightly hinder your view. SOME states will not let you have anything in your line of forward sight, it's called a distraction. Illinois even a little rock chip in your view is a ticket.
But most know Illinois's "whitey-tighteys" are 3 sizes to small.
I once put a narrow strip of stick-on window tint at the very top of my left rear view mirror to cut the "High-Beam" drivers. ILL. Cop said no, remove it. It didn't matter my reason was a matter of safety.

GOOD LUCK :P

If you don't have any warm sunshine to soften it up, use a hairdryer as Floyd mentioned.

I put some on a new Cee Bailey's windscreen once and even though it was well below my sight line (screen was 2" shorter than stock), it was still a distraction and I tore it off in less than a week!!!

Yes, the infringement on your view is a real issue. I even find the line of the clear windscreen and the open view annoying sometimes.

We're not telling you not to do it, it's your choice, just giving you opinions from experience.

I've taken an older shield and trimmed the top edge level with my eye to the road.
It helped a little but the time involved wasn't worth it.
I polished it to crystal clear and it reflected light at certain angles. I'm pretty sure that's the reason plastic and glass windshieldshield mfgs. dull the edge.
