Postby 1stTimeWinger » Mon May 04, 2015 1:22 pm

I had my 1st ride in 32 yrs. :D One did bother me most was the wind
Of course this is my first goldwing as well ..No mechanical issues, just the wind .Am I the only one who has a problem? ? I love this site and i stalk any info I can from here , but don't seem to see that being chatted . At least a half a dozen times I thought I had pinched an inch in the seat .. Any thoughts would be helpful Thank you

First, congrats on your ride!

Next, I guess I'd like a little more info on what the issue is with the wind.
Is it that the bike is getting blown around or you are on the bike?

I feel your pain. We get some pretty strong gusts (20-30 mph) here in DFW as well.
I've found that since it's heavier, the 1500 gets blown around a lot less than any of the other bikes that I've owned.

Some people think that "belly pans" help to minise the effects of wind, especially around your tractor-trailers.

You also learn to handle sudden changes of wind, like when passing a big vehicle, going past a building, having a truck come the other way. The more you anticipate the changes in the wind, the better you will be. By watching the shrubs, grass, and other vehicles, you can anticipate some. But also, if there are other riders near you, watch them. The same goes for obstacles on the road, like holes, and change in surface, loose gravel, rocks, mud, and the other thing that we avoid, ice.

Take it slowly, and do not try to be the master in one day. Go and take a riding course, and practice in a large carpark. Figure 8s around shopping trolleys are good, so that you know that your capabilities are not being mistaken for your ambitions!

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

I did pay attention to the feller in front of me , and heard him lightly throttle in to cross winds ( he was on harley ) . And sometimes it helped , but other times it didn't .
