GOLDWING VS VULCAN NOMAD

Postby brentsboats » Mon May 18, 2015 9:27 pm

IAM HAVING A REAL TOUGH TIME TRYING TO DECIDE IF I WANT TO SELL MY GOLDWING OR NOT .THIS MORNING I RODE THE NOMAD TO MY BUDDYS SHOP TO DROP OFF AND GET A NEW FRONT SHINKO TIRE PUT ON .THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS A LITTLE CHILLY AT 8AM AND THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS HOW MUCH WIND WAS HITTING ME FROM THE WAIST DOWN . AND BEFORE I KNEW IT I WAS GETTING A CHILL . WHEN I RIDE THE WING THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ,AS A MATTER OF FACT VERY LITTLE WIND HITS YOU ANYWHERE WHILE ON HER . NOW AS SOME OF YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW ,MY LEGS ARE THE ONLY REASON WHY I WENT AHEAD AND BOUGHT THE NOMAD .ON THIS BIKE I CAN REALLY STRETCH OUT AND RIDE FOR HOURS ,WHERE AS THE GOLDWING ONLY GIVES ME 2 HOURS TOPS BEFORE I HAVE TO GET OFF AND TAKE A BREAK .THERE ARE A FEW OTHER THINGS I MISSED THIS AM ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE VULCAN . AND QUIET WAS NUMBER ONE , AND SHE IS NOT BY ANY MEANS . PLUS BEING ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO WHILE ON THAT SHORT TRIP . I TRULY AM HAVING A HARD TIME HERE.I HAVE DONE A FEW THINGS TO QUIET DOWN THE VULCAN AND I WILL EXPLAIN HOW I DID THAT AND WILL BE DOING MORE TO MAKE HER REALLY QUIET . AND THEN THE LAST THING I NOTICED THIS MORNING THAT I DID NOT PICK UP ON WHEN I DROVE HER HOME FROM UPSTATE NY .THE ROADS GOING TO THE SHOP ARE MADE WITH QUITE A FEW DIPS CURVES AND POT HOLES .IT SEEMED TO ME THAT I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME AND THE NOSE OF THE BIKE FELT VERY HEAVY AT TIMES .AND IF I HIT A SMALL POT HOLE ,IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT OF THE BIKE WAS GOING TO BREAK . NOW KEEP IN MIND I JUST GOT OFF THE GOLDWING AND RIGHT ON THE VULCAN AND IAM NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD A DRIVER YET ON THE NOMAD OR AS USED TO IT . PLUS THE FRONT TIRES ARE CRAP . OK .I GUESS IAM JUST BLOWING OFF STEAM HERE AND I JUST WANTED TO SHARE SOME OF THIS WITH U GUYS AND GIRLS .HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN THREW THIS ? OK ,THANKS

I think the nomad is a cruiser with some hard bags on it, whereas the wing is a true touring bike which explains the differences.

There are lower wind deflectors that mount to the forks that will alleviate a lot of the wind at the waist. Amazing how much wind they deflect. No help for the legs however.

i have the wind deflectors on the bike already , only wish they were a little bigger . IAm sure i will find a answer soon . Going to go get bike out of shop today and see if the new tire made a big difference for the heavy steering problem or what seemed to be to me a heavy steering problem . Also going to install a trunk box that has a nice set of lights already to be hooked up . Nice looking boxes that i found on ebay for cheap money . Iam not to crazy about the way the side saddle bags open either .. If u load them up you have to fight with the lock and handle to get it to close . not very well made as far as i am concerned . Should have made it open from the top like a honda .

1500 and 1800 wing saddlebags open from the side like the nomad, you get use to it. as for the heavy steering most cruisers have more rake and trail
than a wing which causes heavy and slow steering. look at how fat the tires are on the nomad compared to the wing, that slows steeriing response down also

I was just about to mention air pressure - low air pressure in the front tire will make the front end slop around and hard to steer.
