What model of Goldwing have I got?

Postby nealerobertson » Thu Jun 25, 2015 5:34 pm

I have just purchased a Honda Goldwing GL1100 which is in need of several parts -in particular rear brake components, rear shock absorber seals + bushes, front fork seals + bushes, tachometer cable etc. My bike was made in 1982 (According to the sticker on the left-hand sid of the steering head).

I need to know exactly which model I have so that I can purchase the parts correctly.

Engine number: SCO2E-2208761
VIN (chassis numberX: 1HFSC0206CA20364c

The bike has a fullfairing and fittings to attach panniers and a top-box.

if your instrument panel has analog speedo and tach it's an interstate if they are digital it's an aspencade

Your VIN shows to be manufactured in the Ohio plant in 82.
The chart below doesn't show the C as 82, but another older one does.
You can also verify by a reference post WingAdmin did here

The color is the same a friend of my had. That one was an 81 Interstate. So maybe, but cannot tell you for sure.

The Aspencade also had an air pump for the suspension in the shelter and vented discs. The Interstate did not. Like detdrbuzzard said, digital dash = Aspy, analog = Interstate.

Sorry, I read the original post too quickly.
If the model on the tag on the left side of the steering column states GL1100, it's a Standard. If it reads GL1100I is an Interstate, and GL1100A is the Aspencade. The VIN does not decode to any particular model.

Many thanks to all of you for your prompt and helpful responses.
My bike has the VIN number, 1982 and GL1100 (only) on the plate on the left hand side of the steering column. (Not GL1100i or GL1100A) It also has analogue clocks, suspension without a compressor and non-vented discs.

It would appear that you have the GL1100 "Standard" then.

You can read more about the three models here on Wikipedia

Everything I've read says the '82 Aspy had an LCD dash only. I know the air pump was an option on the Interstate for that year, I've seen them with and without it. Possible someone rebadged yours to Aspencade or replaced your Aspy cluster with an Interstate??

Good evening Ram11397, from asking about your bike on several parts supply houses, your bike is a standard GL1100. If you look on the Honda OEM parts site they list three types on GL100 gl1100a - gl1100aa and gl1100ia, the gl1100aa has a lot of standard goodies such as air pumps, radios etc the gl1100a is a plain jane standard gl1100. if seems that all the parts and part # are the same on all models, it is just the options that seem to be different.

A few clues it is a Standard are, the removable bags which were offered only as an accessory item, mirrors mounted on handlebars, and if it has Honda badge on tank covers, short rear fender, solid color, etc..
