Intro 1995 Trike

Post by musicianstrike » Mon Jul 06, 2015 9:59 am

Hi just wanted to introduce myself. I just joined today after viewing several excellent posts by all the goldwing riders. I just recently acquired a 1995 goldwing trike and I am slowly getting it up and running and looking original. I think I may have a slight flat spot in the acceleration and it idles just a slight bit rough. Any tips you can provide would be appreciated. PS My front fender rattles when I hit a bump. Is there any way to tighten the fender or to brace it? Thanks. the musician

1986 GL1200A (sold)

Too many others to list

First, welcome to the forum.

There are several points to check the bolts on your fender.
One is on top between the forks. There are 4 bolts that hold the front and rear halves to a plate underneath.
There are also 2 bolts for the front half that hold it to the front of the forks halfway underneath the fender.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!

Welcome to the forum Musician. Are you sure it is the fender that is rattling? Rotor covers, brake calipers, ??? By the way, I was in Artesia last month. Stayed the night at the KOA south of you.

Greetings all: Has anyone experienced a problem with their panel/gauge /board begin to distort or melt due to heat ? I am thinking it is caused by bulbs in the gauges that are too many watts. I replaced the gauge trim cover but I am noticing some distortion to happen again. Any ideas? musician

Yes, warping of the instrument panel does happen. I had to replace mine one year due to heat warpage.
When the sun is shining from the rear of the bike, whether parked or riding, the windshield acts like a prism and the light beams can be concentrated into various areas of the dash. The intense heat will warp the plastic.

Keep the windshield covered or always park with the front wheel facing into the sun.
It is probably the Reflecting Plate, item #8, that you are referring to. That is what I had to replace.

This came from a windshield manufacturers website a few years ago:

We have learned that under certain conditions there is a possibility of damage to the Dash on the GL 1500's, it also, appears that this may also be possible with the GL 1800. Damage to the dash can occur with ALL windshields, even the stock. The only difference would be the location of the damage/or the sun angle and/or conditions. The sun must be shining from the rear of the motorcycle and reflecting off of the back of the windshield. To avoid this, park the motorcycle facing the sun or place a cover over the windshield.

I guess the dash lights could cause the problem but I think it is unlikely.

MikeB, thanks so much for the reply. At least I can try to prevent this from happening again. I had replaced the reflecting plate just two months ago with a used part I found on the web. They are pricey since they are old parts. I bought the trike conversion and it had that sun damage when I bought it but I never could figure out the problem. This Goldwing .docs is a great help! Appreciate the info! Musicianstrike

The price doesn't look too bad at all for part number 37101-MAM-A81, $26.95 from Partzilla.

Thanks for the link to partzilla. I should have checked with Goldwing forum first saved some bucks. Any way, I have speedometer/tachometer gauges for cheap if anyone needs them. They fit my '95 GL 1500 and other models I suppose. Musicians trike

If it includes the LCD screen, you better hold on to them.
