Preparing my parts for Powder coat

Postby GL1000-1976-SCX-593P » Wed Jul 22, 2015 7:45 am

As those who have seen my previous post's will be aware, I am in the process of a GL1000 project, I would like to know what preperation work I need to do to the parts to make them ready for Black powder coat.
IE, and in particular The frame, but all other bits too. I intend to clean out the petrol tank and apply a sealer before sending for powder coat.
I guess it would make sense to go and see my intended powder coat provider, but I just thought I'd ask for any tips in this regard.
Thanks
John

Powder coating - and any other painting - it is all about preparation, preparation, preparation. Clean well, sand to score the paint you will be powder coating, clean, clean, clean. Then clean some more. Then paint, or powder coat.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

When I worked at a powder coating shop we would degrease all parts, sandblast then coat them. Remember that after they get sprayed the parts go into an oven to cure. The oven runs at 400 degrees, even infra heaters make the parts hot, make sure the tank liner can take the heat or wait till after the line the tank. 8-)
Ride safe, Todd
