exhaust on legs

Postby notsobright » Sun Aug 09, 2015 4:38 pm

Hello all:
A good friend has a 09 ultra classic Harley with a 96inch engine.
His wife really complains about heat on legs from engine. she won't ride because of it. She wants a wing BUT mike is a Harley guy for now. What do folks out there due for heat on passengers legs on Harleys. I am a wing guy got two so this is not a issue.
You ask why I post here well it is my starting point to help out a friend so he can enjoy the fun of motorcycling with his wife.
Thanks for impute. I suggested different jeans or maybe tall boots. but need more input from some of you that have or have a Harley that has a same issue.

Running a pipe on each side will help a little, instead of both on the right side. But it's the nature of the beast. Between the heat from the oil tank, the pipes, and the catalytic converter, a passenger (and driver)gets fried legs. On a dresser or bagger with crash bars on the bags, they cut into the passengers legs as well.
If she wants him to get a 'Wing, he better do it. Us married guys all know that if momma ain't happy, nobody's happy!

I'm not HD guy but have heard to meet emissions regulations the factory tune is very lean on them. This very lean tune cause a hotter exhaust condition. Many have their bikes retuned (fattened up) to run richer and greatly reduce the issue.

I have used exhaust wrap on one of my other bikes, cuts the heat right down. I can touch the header with my hand after a ride.
My Harley has fried my leg on numerous occasions

Wing is far better behaved! :D

My wife knew that if she wanted to ride with me, she did not complain about the silly little things like heat from the bike. Perhaps not to compromising of me, but that was me way back when. I have since matured, and have a wing and she still wishes to ride with me, so she does not complain about the silly little things like wind, or the heat of the sun. Perhaps your friends wife needs to do a bit of compromising herself. Motorcycing and debutantes do not normally meet halfway.

edit: I am proud of myself. I did not say it as bluntly as I would have used to which would have been to "leave her at home" LMAO (but not in those exact words)

Hey Viking, when are you going to apply for a diplomatic posting with the Canadian foreign service :?:
Len in Kapunda

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.
