GPS

Postby c5cruiser » Sat Sep 12, 2015 11:07 pm

Hi all.

I have an 04 GL1800. How or what is used to mount a GPS on the handle bar?
I have the squarish handle bar and all I've found are made for the round bars.
What do you use and where did you get it?

I don't use one, but most bar mounts for the 1500/1800 use the brake and clutch cylinders for mounting. You pop the covers off and replace the screws with the ones that come with the mount. Here's an example

Edit: That was a pain in the butt to post that link for some reason. If I tried to embed the vid I got a youtube error and if I tried to just link to the page the forums automatically added the youtube tags to the url tags which messed up the link
reEdit: Ok, now that I actually got a straight up link to that page, the forum edited it to embed....

Wow! Well that was painless. I'll have to look into that one.
Thanks spiralout. :P

That mounting technique listed above is one of many but most attach in that method. RAM Mounts makes similar hookups to mount on a GL1800 and then to attach the GPS. Whitehorse GEar has quite a selection of Ram Mounts and I suspect Cyclemax does also.

I would select the GPS and see what will be needed and then call the mount supplier and see what they recommend. What you by for the actual mount may be specific to the right side handlebar or left side handlebar so be sure you have already decided which side you want the GPS located.

There are also some mounting systems for GPS that put them in the center bottom of the windshield was well as other places. Texelent has a bar that goes between the two handlebars that provides a lot of space to mount various items. http://www.texelent.com/gps_mount.htm

Personally my GPS (Garmin 660) is mounted on the left handlebar.

Thanks harvey01.
I've seen that somewhere before but had forgotten about it.
Thanks for the memory jog.
