still looking for "winter" project, might have found it!

Postby made2care » Tue Sep 29, 2015 3:51 pm

found a 1981 , gl1100 with new tires and starter. everything is there, only 33,000 miles for $500. will pick it up this weekend. I'm really excited.
The bags on the bike look weird, like luggage . What model would this be or does the seller have the year wrong.

Does it look like an over grown GL650I? They have bags that look like small suitcases. This bike has the 'Interstate Package'.

You have a GL1100 and the bags took quite a bit of research to find, they are late 70s early 80s Hondaline bags.
See pics.

Congrats on finding a new project, but who are you fooling? We don't have winter in Oklahoma or Texas. :D
You are right though, I've never seen bags or a back rest like that.
Looks like it will be fun to go through and not near as much trouble as the last bike that you were looking at.

The bags are what you bought from Honda when you had or bought a 'naked' Goldwing and wanted to add saddlebags and a fairing after the fact. If the windshield trim (the wide metal 'bar' below the windshield) is black and not chrome, that's the clincher.

Edit: Yeah, just looked at the picture. Windshield trim is black, plus the 'HONDA' badge is still on the gas tank. When it came from the factory as an Interstate they didn't put the Honda badge on the tank.

Entirely correct. Also dealers sometimes installed them on standard bikes and sold new from showroom. Good find!

Forgot to mention that my wife made a direct statement and I guess a command of sorts that she does not want two bikes in the garage. So now what do I do :? I have a shed but it would have to be modified. I don't want to park it outside!

Didn't you have two at the same time when you got Black Beard and before you got rid of Sleeping Beauty?

made2care wrote:I have a shed but it would have to be modified. I don't want to park it outside!

Get rid of the shed and build yourself a real "bike garage" in its place. :D

Yes, that's the very reason she doesn't want 2 bikes. She has to park her fancy infiniti qx56 and with 2 bikes it is crowded. She fighting me tooth and nail and I'm not giving in. I can build my own garage :x , to me, that's not giving in, that's venturing forward.

It's a 'Standard', with the 'Hondaline' accessory fairing and bags.

had to postpone picking up this past weekend. will try again this coming weekend.

Quick question on the carbs. since i have never cleaned or rebuilt these, and the bike is running, is there an initial trick to attempt to clean without removing?
Thanks
