Finally, the wanderer is home. My new winter project

Here she is, I've named her "the wanderer". Greatest deal I ever got but, this bike is in bad shape. Signs of leaks all over the place and the engine knocks pretty loudly. Will use this forum again to help me through this one.enjoy the picks. This is an 81, gl1100. Also, what causes engine knocking, appears to get louder when I release clutch .

I would think carbs out of balance will be your biggest issue.

And now that you have got the greatest deal ever - let us know why it was so great? No good teasing us :)

any history on the bike you know of? - plus it looks pretty complete - how far forward does that huge sissy bar come to - maybe enough for the rider to use it ??

cheers

I only paid a couple of $100 for it. Managed to bring the owner down from original asking price of $800.
I did ask the owner if there was anything he could tell me about the bike. He mentioned that the previous owner had removed the engine to replace something, i think the stator and he wasnt too impressed with his work but he still rode it. it only has 35,000 miles and after a good cleanup should look more than just $200. I have both original side covers and the lower fairings which are not shown in the pics. Have not meddled with sissy bar yet.

Tot siens- I'm an Afrikaner :D

Well done,

for a couple of hundred dollars -that's a great deal for sure - especially if it is running.

keep us informed of the progress. :)

I keep looking locally (well, for values of local based on living in Fallon, Nevada) for honda projects. It is a bit nuts out here. Last week a non running, missing scree on the fairing and seat (entirely), no battery, no gas for testing, gl650 went for $400 in town here!

Spent the day on two projects. Finished up remodeling the master bath and when I got a chance, degreasing my new bike. Man she was a mess!! Figured out how to unhitch the bags, pretty neat latching system they thought of back then.

When do you hang out your shingle: "Older GoldWings Restorations"

You seem to go looking for them, but I guess with a long winter coming up, you need something to do to break the boredom
