Backrest - Drivers seat

Postby Rjfowler » Mon Jul 19, 2010 10:36 am

Where can I find a backrest for the driver on a GL1100 Interstate or do I need to have one made. Any sources. Thanks.

Markland made one (it's the one I have on mine) but they're long since out of business. Best place to look for those would be eBay.

Wingstuff sells a new one, I don't know who makes it: GL1100 Deluxe Driver Backrest Kit

I sure would like to make one - I just can't seem to figure a good clamp? How do the other back rests clamp on the frame? A photo would be great if possible?

My Markland seat back has two arms that go down on each side and bolt into brackets on either side of the seat. You can see part of it in the upper right corner of this picture:

You can see the bracket at the bottom of this picture:

So there only attached by hose clamps? I figure even conduit painted black would look OK. Thanks for the pics!

No, if you look at the front of the bracket, you will see an allen-head screw that is tapped into the bracket. That screw comes out, and screws through the bracket that the seatback pivots on. The black half-round portion is where the seatback frame rests when it is in the "full back" position.

I don't recall what that hose clamp is holding in place, but it's not that bracket. The bracket is fastened to the frame - although it's been long enough since I looked at it that I don't remember how it is fastened.

We are parting out a GL1200 Interstate and it does have a drivers backrest in great condition. Not sure what to ask for it.

I just won one on Evilbay and i dont think it had any mounting brackets so im going to see what i need to do to make a set of brackets . Would be a good idea to have some members post pics of there back rests and mounting hardware so making your own would be easier to make your own.
