Dip Stick

Postby Solina Dave » Sat Oct 31, 2015 8:56 am

I've been searching around this forum, and other forums, and I have yet to find very much consistent information regarding a dip stick conversion for a GL1000. I have a '78 GL. I've tried links to JC Whitney without any luck. I see where some have installed a conversion on a GL1100, with success, and I've seen some, who claim the conversion kit is available for a GL1000. Others also have claimed that during installation on a GL1000, a somewhat significant adjustment to the tube was required to make it fit. I need details.
Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Is a kit for a GL1000 available, and if so where? Has anyone installed a kit on a GL1000, and if so, what is your opinion regarding it's suitability, and problems that may have been encountered during, and after installation?
Any ideas and comments from all you dip stick experts would be welcome  ..............Thanks.......................Dave

This current thread is referencing an 1100 but they are the same. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30141 The dipstick at the bottom is the only one that is available unless you find one on e-bay. I had one on my 76 and there was no modification necessary. Worked just fine out of the box. The dipstick from JCWhitney is the one I had. Same dipstick is used for both the 1000 or 1100. I removed and sold mine because it wouldn't work with my ride off center stand.

You might loon at this one, it's better than the JC Whitney one.

Thanks very much for your suggestion, and the link. I'm thinking that it may be just what I'm looking for.
I hope that there's still one available. The NGW posting is Apr. 2014, but I'll check it out, and let you know how it develops.

Thanks again..............................Dave
