Importing goldwing into UK

Postby sheepdip » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:30 am

Hi
My partners son has sent a goldwing GL1500 2000 reg across from the states so as to be able to use it when he comes over on holiday. He is a expat living in Oman.
Can anybody give me any info on how or what I need to do to get it UK registered as the paperwork from the DVLA asks a lot of questions about emissions that are not on a V5 form for a bike of that year,
Thanks Sheepdip.

You can bring it in as a "temporary import" for six months which will give you some time. You will need to contact the DVLA about a permanent import as the machine is older than 10 years and different rules apply. I suspect all the info about emissions will relate to newer motorcycles, so hopefully the process will be simpler for a 15 year + motorcycle.

Hi,
Thanks for that, it will have to be as full import as it will be more than 6 months before he comes to use it,
Have been told I will need a dating certificate so am on the lookout to do that.

Or you could surprise him and buy him a bicycle instead - I am sure he would be thrilled.
