Have you ever.....

Postby OldZX11Rider » Tue Dec 08, 2015 12:25 pm

Have you ever been sitting at home thinking all is well, perusing goldwingdocs.com, and suddenly you see someone is fixing their broken blah, blah, blah, and now you remember you forgot to do something to your bike?
I only bring it up because it seems every time I do it, I see something I need to do or at least check it out.
I've got a sub and cruise air filter on order now, as well as a fuel filter, but I knew about that one. I didn't even know I had a cruise and sub air filter til I read it here.
I read about the shifter support, as well as the oil seal replacement here. I want to do that because it just seems to make sense.
It's reaching the point I don't want to read any more "How To's" until I get caught up!
Does this only happen to the newer owners or are long term owners also susceptible?

I think newer owners probably haven't been "perusing" here as long as long term owners.
Follows the rule of "you don't know what you don't know".

I don't want to ignore anything that needs attention but being on a fixed income limits the depths of my pockets.

it is always better to know what potential problems can occur so that when they do happen you know what needs to be done to correct the issue without any major stress or problems. Not every issue is a shut down repair. The more you know the better you can handle the issue. Preventative replacement can be done at ones leisure and as funds become available. I usually save these kind of upgrades for the hibernation time of the year for my wing. I just consider the upgrades a Xmas gift to me and my GF. :D :D

I want to learn all I can about the bike. Although I didn't know everything about my GL1100 or GL1200's I knew enough to keep them reliable and ready to go.
I also knew when to take it to a mechanic when the repair was more than I could do.
That's all I want to do with this 1500. I wasn't afraid to go anywhere on any of my previous Goldwings. Its because of their reliability that I have another one now. :D

I make myself a "To Do" list for each vehicle on my computer, starting with the most critical ones at the top, gradually going down to the "would be nice someday" ones at the bottom. Whenever I finish one item, I move it to a "completed" list along with a date and mileage, so I have an idea of what I did when.

There are some things that "would be nice someday" and have been on my list for years. Fair chance they'll never happen, but at least I have record that I thought of them.

I read all of the posts on the gl1100 section and even if my wing is running smooth with no problems I think maybe I'll look at that even change/renew it just in case it's strange .
