Hello all.

I have been lurking for a couple of days, and figure I should introduce myself to this amazing community! You all are so full of knowledge, it is great to be here.

I have been riding Harley's all my life, I even have pictures of me as a baby belted to my dad on his bike. Before anyone gets riled up though, I am of the camp that it doesn't matter what you are riding, just be riding.

We purchased an 1983 Honda V45 Magna for my son for his graduation present, and that was my first foray into the Honda world.

Last weekend came across a screaming deal on a 1982 Goldwing Standard and just happened to have my girlfriends Christmas bonus in hand, so she got a bike too.

We were planning on waiting until spring, but it couldn't be passed up. It needs a little work, but runs and looks great! It needs new front fork seals, brake pads, and a rear tire. Her bike also has the Vetter fairing, side bags and trunk.

Looking through the DIY section on here is fantastic. The step by step how-to's are going to be very handy!

Thanks for putting on such a great site!

From what I keep reading here, the main maintenance item you need to do for that Goldwing is to change the timing belts. Everything after that is just more gravy, but the timing belts are the meat and potatoes of keeping that bike reliable. Welcome to the forum.

At least the cost of maintaining the goldwing should not hurt the pocket too much.

The guy we bought it from had said it had a new timing belt recently. He bought it as a project but had to sell it. I will definitely look into it though. I'm sure it says somewhere on this site how to check the timing belt. Thank you for the reminder!

From what I am seeing cost wise, WAY less than Harley parts!

Thank you all for the welcome.

The Vetter fairing may be coming off. She is not a fan of it obscuring her view. She is a shorty. LOL. The bags and the truck will stay for sure though. She is already planning how to pack them for road trips in the summer.

So far she has only cruised around on our street with it. So maybe on the road she will feel different about it. She still wants a windshield. Just doesn't like the fairing itself.
