Came across this poor old girl in a field in Scotland!

Postby t15dja » Fri Mar 11, 2016 8:48 am

In February 2016 my wife and I had a brief holiday in the far north west of Scotland. At the end of a lovely long walk across hills and past remote frozen lochs I just couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this rather sad old girl languishing in a field in the tiny hamlet of South Erradale - look it up on Google maps and you'll see how remote it is!
I owned a GL 1000 about 35 years ago, so recognised the unmistakeable profile from afar....my wife thought I'd gone mad when I started pointing and staring in disbelief!
The bike looked very sad....but was only showing 27K miles on the clock. I can't emphasise enough what a remote location it was located in. How did it end up there? Why had it been abandoned? What stories could it tell? I took a photo of the frame identification so someone somewhere might know more of its history.....I'd be very interested to know if someone does!

I've actually been up close to that way - not quite as far out to the coast, maybe 30 miles inland.

In any case, I would have to say that it hasn't been sitting out there all that long. The foam grips and the condition of the seat show it hasn't spent a lot of time out in the sun and wind and rain.

At least someone was kind enough to put something under the kick stand so it wouldn't fall over. Whats with the bike right behind it????

I'm not sure, other than it was a well scavenged Yamaha twin.

Here's another picture with its resting companion alongside.
