Intercom cords

Postby deanjenn » Wed May 04, 2016 6:45 pm

I've got a question about headsets for my GL1500 SE. I think I know the answer, but want to make sure. Is the extension cord for the front headset the same as the passenger one? When I bought it there was a cord on the front hook up, and nothing else. I'm thinking about buying headsets and using the factory system, so much less complicated for the technically challenged. ;) :? Thanks in advance for all help and answers.

Yes, they are both the same.

The front and the rear use the same cords but the brand of headset also seems to need it's own... When I bought my J&M headsets, they said I needed their J&M cord to connect their headsets to the bike... I guess others may be similar, i.e. Honda cord for Honda headsets, J&M cords for J&M headsets, etc... Do you know what make of cord was there when you bought the bike? Also, some J&M cords are model specific too... They referenced a specific headset model, needing a certain specific cord, for a specific make/model/year of bike...

The rear panel has J&M written on it, and the cord is J&M also I'm pretty sure. The cord i have looks like this one. I thought they were the same, but wasn't sure. That's what brand I'm thinking of going with so it shouldn't be a big deal then. Thanks for the help.

Just to confuse things further...

Honda headsets are actually re-branded J&M headsets.

J&M headsets have leads that convert the 5 pin Honda DIN plug to a proprietary J&M plug that cannot be bought anywhere else in the known universe.

There are quite a few different proprietary J&M plugs, and which one you need depends on the age and type of J&M headset you have.
