Legal Carry on Motorcycle?

Postby sashery » Thu Jun 09, 2016 3:30 pm

I would like to hear opinions about self defense while on a road trip. Is concealed carry 'on-person' or compartment carry on the bike preferred? I know laws vary from state to state. Have any of you experienced the need to draw a weapon to defend yourself while on the road?

Any input is appreciated.

I have a concealed carry license so my attire dictates where it goes... most preferred is an ankle holster... never drawn it on anyone...

Typically my weapon is in a saddlebag. Probably not best place if there was a need. Never had to extract it. I like the ankle carry idea, I wonder if my 40 mm would in my boot securely?

My ankle and boot holsters only hold my Glock 9 mils and some small 38 Chief Specials I have, nothing large framed... I put a Beretta 9, a 45 Smith auto, or any other large framed pistols on a waist clip holster on my backside if shirts and jackets are worn that'll cover them... also have a nice belt holster for my backside that holds the weapon high on my back just above the waist... I figure if I need it, it best be on my body, not much good in a bag or trunk... BTW, have a brother in Tuscon!

I carry a Ruger LCR in .357 mostly in my vest pocket or waist band and put my shirt tail over it. I also carry pepper spray so I have an alternative to using deadly force and it works great on those dogs that like to try and grab your pants leg when you ride by.

J or K frame in jacket pocket. I usually have a couple different holsters for different situations. Now more than ever you have to be ready for Omar.

Glock 22 , .40 cal on right hip , and Makarov P-64 9x18 in boot . You guess which one . Oh yes ; and a old fashioned British Commando stiletto . Carrying a gun in a trunk box or bags is just about the same as leaving it at home , in my opinion . If a situation presents itself where you would need that firearm ; by the time you get your hands on it , and deploy it , it's usually to late to be of any benefit . Other than to provide your attacker with another weapon after he has incapacitated or killed you .

These are choices each person has to make for themselves on a individual basis . If you haven't had "that" conversation with yourself about deciding whether you are capable of taking a life , then you shouldn't be carrying at all .

To salty1 : Depends on the .40 you have . The Makarov 9mm I "Boot-carry" is only a six round semi-auto . But it has 124gr +P , Russian ammo in it .
