Jumping out of gear doesn't give a warm and fuzzy feeling. Wonder if its jumping out of 4th. That would be bad. 96k is a few miles also even if the bike looks nice. Don't know what your budget is but I'd recommend keep on looking. You can find a solid gl1500 for $5000 to $5500 with less than 50k miles. :D

If adjusting the clutch is all it's needs, then tell him to do it and see if it still jumps out of gear
BTW. First ask him how to "adjust" a hydraulic clutch
BTW, upwards of $4,000+ to completely rebuild a tranny :o

Kinda opposite ends of spectrum. That was a quick search using searchtempest for DFW. You can plug i your own zip code for closer bikes. :D

thanks for the info guys, but both want to trade my 98 harley for one of them. you think the jumping gear problem on a low milege bike might get into tranny problems. oh boy. and 96,000 mile bike might be a problem also ???

Nothing wrong with a Wing with 96k on the clock, they can go for 200k to 300k maybe more if maintained well. Its just I go for a bike with lesser miles but like you mentioned you got a trade deal potentially working so only you can really judge that :D

The bike with 98K has 7,500 miles per year, the one with 20K has only 1,700 miles per year, if it were me I would go for the one with the 98K, a bike sitting as a garage queen can have more problems than a higher mileage bike. If both bike as in similar conditions, I would go for the one that liked to be rode.
