Hi There,

Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for putting up this great resource on the net. I currently ride a mint 1981 CX500 which I bought from the original owner. The bike spent 25 years in his loungeroom and is simply amazing to behold. Its been a fantastic first bike but for longer distances has proven to be a bit small for my larger frame (6'3" and 235 pounds).

I am looking forward to my next bike when I graduate to a full un-restricted capacity license in 8 months. I am pretty sure I want a GL1000 '75-'79. They are such cool looking bikes. The only issue is finding a good one at a good price. I've done quite a bit of online research and found some good buying tips.

Of the '75 -'79 models, are they all pretty much the same or are there some distinct advantages/disadvantages between model years that I should be aware of? My riding style is pleasure cruising (but enjoy the twisties) and I live in an area that affords instant access to picturesque winding roads through rolling hills.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi!
I started with a '82 CX500Custm after 29 years of not having a bike. It was an awesome bike. After two years I got a '83 Gold Wing and absolutely loved it. What I liked about the '83 was that it has integrated brakes[foot applies both front and rear]. I found the handling pretty good considering the size of bike. I now ride a '84 Wing since the '83 was totaled about a month ago. Happy rides

This page has a full history of Goldwings, including the various differences between the GL1000 models, that might help you out.
