I SURE HOPE.. .. ..

Postby FM-USA » Thu Oct 27, 2016 1:43 pm

I hope NO ONE is desperate enough to pay this amount.
That's about 1/4 of a good used bike WITH an noncracked, working meter.

Know its new taste and be loyal, you'll know when to change that oil.
Taste testing as the miles flow, souring as that acid grows.
And don't flirt with dirt or darkened oil, all the faster your engine will spoil.

And no LCD either.I saw one for a grand a while back.
I'm probably gonna need one but not at those prices.I'll live without and use a GPS spedo app on my phone.
I bid on one that had just the LCD removed.Ideal for my flooded bike project.
Lost the bid.I was outbid at the last minute. It went for $75 including shipping.

Oh wait...It does say "New" in the description.
Maybe that makes a difference.
I suppose if your gonna restore to new condition and money isn't a factor that would be the way to go.It would have zero miles on the odo.

A full restore, ya maybe.
Partzilla (obsolete meter) wants $900+ each.

. . . Here's my BEST OFFER message to a seller of a different used meter $354.99.
"Cracked cover minus $150.00
Item pix with adverts in my face minus $20 each = $140.
My offer, $64.99 with free shipping.
"

LOL, still waiting for a (not holding my breath) reply. ;)

there are a few of these on eBay going for between $149-$800.00 and they all say they are for the Honda interstate and Pacific Coast bikes.

It's news like this...
"Company hikes price 5,000% for drug that fights complication of AIDS, cancer"
"Drug Goes From $13.50 a Tablet to $750, Overnight"
"Doxycycline, an antibiotic, went from $20 a bottle in October 2013 to $1,849 by April 2014"
... then I read similar EXORBITANTLY HIGH PRICES for parts that are becoming scarce, really IRKS me.

We have a vehicle that's built to last yet the MFG will not make replacement parts.
Am I the only crotchety one here? :x . . . . maybe.

Is it not possible for someone to make/source the moulding ,someone else to make/source the clocks . Would it really be that difficult in today's world of 3d printing or am I just dreaming ./ wishing:-)

Squirrel, yes with todays many computer aided techniques, most parts can be duplicated and manufactured. The problem is the relationship between supply and demand. Or put another way is there sufficient demand from buyers who will actually pay for the part to make manufacturing it worthwhile for the manufacturer. Right now there are many such suppliers in the collectable car world but not many have seen a good market in older motorcycles.

Some bikes such as the Honda CBX do receive some support this way but that is very limited. Have you checked with Randakks as he is in the process of combining his business with another and has indicated he may want to expand his product offering. And the early GL's are some of his favorite bikes to restore.
