Hello from Athens, Alabama

Post by Squatchmo » Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:47 pm

I hadn't ridden in about 4-5 years, after I sold my Valkyrie Interstate. Last week I saw a "for sale" sign on an old Aspencade, and just couldn't pass it up, so now I'm the owner of a 1986 GL1200A!

I have perused this forum in the past (when I went to register, I discovered I'm already registered), and it's easy to see there is a wealth of information for Wing owners here.

I will tell you right now, I probably won't be shy about asking questions, as my ride is: 1) old, 2) apparently sat outside a lot the past few years, and 3) needs a little work. It is definitely a fun ride and it runs and shifts great - not quite as much HP or torque as the Valkyrie, but that's okay. I did notice a little coolant (leak? I hope..!) on the right side yesterday after a 15-mile ride, and it looks like the tube that goes into the overflow/reserve tank under the faux tank cover was wet, so it may be that little grommet-like thingy is bad. I hope that's all it is.

Anyway, I digress, I just wanted to say "Hi" and I look forward to seeing you all on the forum!

Hmmm, its got a trailer hitch. Next thing ya know, we'll be seeing him in the Camping and Trailers forum.... :D

If it's that elbow/hose/grommet thingy you can save some time and cash, "Honda" parts of this kind are expensive, ACE Hardware is your friend. They have enuf off-the-shelf stuff (that isn't metric but somehow fits anyway) to fabricate one yourself for cheap. Just bring tank/hoses/parts/stuff into the store with you and "shop, test, fit" until you find the right stuff!

Nice pretty blue Aspy! Good find. Post that pic as your Avatar!

(BTW, my Avatar pic was taken by my buddy who drove me down to PO's house to get MY Aspy, I was backing it out of PO's driveway with signed title in the saddlebag!)
They say 98% of all Hardleys ever made are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.
(I stole this from somebody on another GW site...)

Denver, you are so right on regarding the Ace Hardware comment.....I fix my bike with ACE "CERTIFIED REPLACEMENT" PARTS, lol. Anything that works, and the bike keeps rolling.
