I don't know about you out there but it seems like I turn a lot of heads on my 81 GL [Not the Stereo], especially the older gentlemen, I rode a Kawasaki Nomad and it was tricked out something nice but I never got the attention I do on this old Goldwing, It's a people magnet for sure..Younger guys act like they have never seen one, they have a look on their faces that looks like, what the heck kinda bike is that? The 80's through 83 body style is a slimmer looking bike than the 84's on up..I love the look of the faring, looks like a shark..anyway I have so many people want to talk to me about it at stores, gas stations ect. I was just wondering if anyone else gets this too.. This is almost a daily event on the GL.. One guy down in east Texas yelled out at me, hey... what year is that..In freakin traffic right, I just yelled back a 81, I have it painted like a 82 Asp. almost...anyway I would love to hear some of your stories.. these bikes are old but still look great today...I'm 50 and starting to feel it ...

Littlebeaver
late last fall, i took my 76 GL 1000 for a last run and stopped at a coffee shop (Timmie's) The bike gathered a crowd before i could get it stopped. I heard a lot of stories of bikes long gone and projects gone sour . The flat four will pull a crowd wherever we stop
My buddy rode a new 78 Goldwing, pulling a trailer from Ontario Canada to Texas and return on his honeymoon , he still has both , the bike and the bride .Both still dependable and going strong If you think about it , that's unusual these days--LOL
Cheers terry

That's so cool man, so cool..I actually have a trailer hitch on mine too but I just got this bike a few years ago, I grew up around them , my oldest brother had a Honda cub[50 cc] way back when in the early 60's, I was about 5 years old and he crashed it and got on the local news..It was about 1965 or so, scared the family but he was fine, yeh he was 15 so I was 5..I remember him getting just about every different kind of bike after that..I think these older bikes are prize possessions to us because they outlive most others, don't get me wrong I like all different types of motorcycles, I love the triumphs, and old BSA's and Harley's, Indians, Kawasaki is a favorite, but Honda well, I like them too..I smile when I see someone else riding an older bike, regardless of what it is..If he is riding it still and or took the time and effort to fix it up and keep it running then he deserves a smile and wave.. that's a long long ride from Canada to Texas, it takes half a day just to get through Texas.. man...I love my trailer I could take everything I want for camping ect. fishing..ooohh :D

it seems more women are attracted to and ask about the 1500 wing and more guys ask about the 1200 wing

Not long ago I got myself a gl1100 1981. I have been doing it up and it is nearly ready for the road, I live in a small village in Southern Ireland and so far it has had a lot of interest, I am going to put it on the road in January 2011 when it becomes vintage and the road tax will be 22 euro for the year, I used to be a biker some years ago, and I am so looking forwards to taking it for a spin. By the way I am 64 years old. The bike is looking very well for her age and it runs like a sowing machine perfect.

Well, you know how hard it will be to get off of it then if you were a biker in your past.. It sounds like you have a plan, a really good plan..I have a 81 interstate, I find it very very hard to make that last turn at the end of our street, it means I have to come home and put it away..I really enjoy riding it..

I agree - it's always a disappointment when I turn onto my street on my way home.

I just looked at a 1978 Wing this week....but being an old guy and just spending 23 grand on my 2010 Wing, I just can't bring myself to spend the money. I'd really like to have it because my first Wing was a "78".
