You might be in the minority.

Its all good, whatever makes you happy.

Mine came with a backrest and I've never had it off so I don't know what it's like without one.But I sure like mine.

depends on the condition of your spine...

if like me, L1 - L5 are a mess, the only way I can ride is with a backrest period.

My 1500 came with one. I removed it after a few weeks. Rather ride without it. Seems to me to be too restrictive to movement. Wife didn't like it either.

I tried a couple of add on backrests, and one, I did not like = the other, the passenger did not like. Upgraded to a custom seat and had them add the backrest and I love that one. It is easily removeable if I want it off, but I never take it off. I ride most of the time with my back just barely touching the back rest, but it is there if I feel the need of some support.

Of course, to each their own choice.
Mine was restricting me in the minute balancing of the bike.
I'm on the larger side so the little movement I input/throw makes it rather easy to steer the bike without arm input.
Passenger didn't like the tighter or caged feeling. I took out the backrest padding for 1/4" padding and added a pouch for her stuff. She didn't like it.
EH, :? I tried.

Liking the backrest. But I would expect there to be some who are more comfortable without one.

Glad a backrest is an option.

I like it on long trips, but the wife has a hard time with it so I usually have it off. With her on the back I get back rubs, so it’s a good trade off.

I ride without one. The only one I liked was the one mounted in my seat. It was easy to remove when I didn't want it and it fit in my trunk. It hit correctly on my lower back.

I like it when my wife rides with me just as much when she doesn’t. :D

When I first got this old GL1200 wing ... I hated the backrest it dug in , and was just uncomfortable ..

After about a month , I noted it had fiddly vertical and angle adjustment .. after a week of adjustment , followed by my daily ride to work .... it " fit" and was / is still perfect

Try adjusting yours to fit your spine ?
