A BIG WORD of THANKS

Postby MJSantos » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:55 pm

Thank you all for the valuable infomation. Here's another 83 Interstate saved. Almost a year to the date since I started on it. How's our collective effort look to you. Believe it or not this bike is all original. After the learning experience the wife and I are starting on her Wing. Hopefully not another year.

Very nice!! The raised white lettering on the tires looks great on your bike. on others ... not so sure.

I did that way back in the mid 60's to the blackwall tires on my '53 Ford. I found some tire paint and tried to turn them into whitewalls. If I remember correctly it didn't turn out so well. They looked "ok" but not great.

I use to do it a long time ago when I was younger. It's important to clean the tire well to remove the releasing wax from the sidewall otherwise the paint does not stick and then when it peels off it looks a real mess. It takes a while to paint all the letters, but looks nice at the end if you are careful. I always paint the tire after it's been fitted, otherwise the paint tends to get damaged/smudged when fitting the tire..

Those tires came that way. I got them from Motorcycle Superstore. They were hard to find in the correct size.

Yeah, those were the tires I had on my bike before I put the Avons on, and they had very faded (but white) lettering on the side.

That's a sharp looking bike. Like the tires too. I wanted to put wide white walls on my 85 gl1200. Finally found some Dunlop's that would fit.
