New Member in Toronto

Postby Tris » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:51 pm

Hi all, hope everyone had a good holiday and wishing everyone the very best new year.

Just bought, but not yet delivered, a 1989 GL1500. She only has 70,000 km on her and looks like new. Unfortunately it will be a couple of months before we can do any serious riding around here.

I've been riding for 5 years now and have put almost 70,000 km on a variety of bikes.

2006 Yamaha Virago 250 (sold)
2003 Honda Shadow 750 ACE (still riding her)
2001 BMW R1200C (sold)

Wanted something for touring, so here I am.

Tris

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Got news yesterday that the lien, which was holding up my purchase of the new bike, has been discharged and I can now finalize my purchase. Still likely to be a week or so before I get her home though....this is what it looks like outside right now: :(

That view is Eglinton Ave at Kingston out in the deepest darkest Sacrberia.

That snow will just turn to slush shortly then slowly melt away. I hate Toronto winters.

Ditto on the welcome and hello from Michigan! Yes it's unfortunate on the cold and snow which keeps us from riding.

Finally got my baby home tonight. WOO HOO! My mechanic, Ken, delivered her after servicing her top to bottom. Says she's cherry, lots better than most he sees.

I must say she is a big girl. Parking is fun in the underground. We now have one car, three bikes and one parking spot between us. I'm 5-8 and 140 lbs so getting her up on the centre stand is a trick, but I've figured it out.

Now if the snow would just hurry up and.....

There is a great video "how to ride" I got How to Ride #5 for Christmas and I love it. However in the video it shows a few techinques and you should get it and watch it. I plan to do some practicing in the Spring and if youre inclined I would love a practice buddy.

I am nearby in Guelph.

Congratulations! Have a look at this: How to get the bike up on its center stand - it's universal for all Goldwings (they all go up the same way). It's fairly easy once you figure it out.

Just had a look, and they're both definitely there. Are you running something that blocks Youtube, by any chance?

Welcome Tris.
I grew up around the Lawrence/Pharmacy area(sister still lives there) before moving out to Whitby/Oshawa/Port Perry area. Then out to Penticton, BC and now am back in Ontario(Beaverton) looking after ailing Parents.
Snow - we here in ON are used to it. Not saying we 'like' it, just used to it.
You picked the right bike for piling the miles on while touring. ;)

Cheers, Ken
