No neutral light - can you bump start 1500glse 1999

Postby Staddlebridge » Mon Jan 03, 2011 8:47 am

I am having problems with an intermittent "no Neutal Light" and starter will not work.
I think I have solved problem with reverse lever but I am not keen to go on extended run - just in case neutral fails again.
If it does happen again can I bump start bike to get me home?
Last time it happened my bike was still running although I could not get Neutral light to come on before I switched it off - safely at home in the garage.
What problems might I encounter getting someone to push me (luggage bag fatenings etc).
It might never happen again but I on't want to have to trailer my bike home each time I go for a run.

It's certainly possible, but I don't know if you're going to find a lot of volunteers lining up to help push your bike down the road.

Best insurance is to make sure you park on a hill. :)

It sounds like the the micro switch for reverse lever is sticking. Remove lever and you will see micro switch give it a good spray of contact cleaner, this should fix you problem. I always carry a can of cleaner

Thanks for the replies.

It seems to be working O.K. now. I'll clean the switch again at my first of season service in the Spring.

As long as I know that it can be bump started I can go out with peace of mind.

I live in North Yorkshire and do most of my biking in the area or Northumberland - always plenty of friendly poeple willing to give you a hand.

Regards
