Stroke

Postby starfleetengineer » Sat Jan 15, 2011 2:54 am

Just wanted to let everyone know that on Jan 9th. I suffered a stroke. This one has affected my left side. You don't know how much we take for granted till we loose it! I will be going though rehab to try and gain as much strenght back as I can. I hope to be riding this spring, but that depends on if I can find a cheap enough engine. I can use the daughters boyfriends to help in stall it. With all the medical bills that will be coming, the engine may have to wait. Everytime I find a good cheap one with fair shipping, someone beats me too it. Life is still good, but it sucks right now!

Thanks Martin!

It is amazeing on how we take the everyday things we do for granted! It dosent matter what we do or who we are. It can hit any of us at any time with no warrning. I have high blood pressure, and I let my warrning signs go longer than I should have. Now it's time to pay the piper,,, but little does he know, I'll get my money back

Sorry to hear of your stroke, but you're right about not knowing what you have until it's not there. It gives you all the more drive to recover and make the most of your life. Speedy recovery!

UPDATE!!
Seen doc today. Says it wasn't as bad as he thought. Still shows up in MRI. "what ever that means" Have to have another MRI, "I'll be glowing in the dark after this" He thinks in time I should get everything back :D It will be a long hard road, with I'm sure a set back here or there. My goal is to ride this year, even if it the last day of the season

Excellent news! Keep it up!

BTW, MRI's use magnetism, not X-rays, so unfortunately you won't be glowing anytime soon. They could MRI you all day long and all you'd get is bored.

Sorry to hear of stroke, but doctors can sound scarey at first. Had my 3rd last August and only suffer short time memory, little vision blurs, and ocassional numbness to right leg. I am learning my limitations and it can test one's faith, but i ride as good as ever. The more calm and cool you stay when an event happens the faster the recovery. It really is true that some days the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing, but i'm laughing in the end.

Well,, good news and bad news. Good news is I am 100% back on my right side and both legs. Bad news, my left arm is only 40%. They are talking that it might take another 6 weeks :( It's starting to stay light longer so I'm starting to feel better about that. But we have another stome coming in Tue that could drop up to 18 inches :x . I'm still owrking on finding a 1200 engine so I can get ready to change it out and be ready to ride come spring. My 2 biggest goals is getting back to work, and being able to pull and hold in the clutch lever. I still got one good arm to hold mama :D

Thanks guys and gals for all your support!!!! ;)

Rick
