GL1200 New to site

Postby GWLDL » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:56 pm

I just got a 84 GL1200 Aspencade last summer (31K). I had it into the shop right after buying it. It had some issues but-mechanix were able to get her running great. I put about 1K miles on over the summer (2010), and she ran very good. Of course on the "last ride of the season"-something happened to the starter switch on the right handle bar. Went to start-after leaving work. The switch moved in/out ok, and bike ran the starter-and bike started.....but....the starter would not stop running-even tho the bike was running. Used kill switch and tried starting several times with the same results. On the last attempt smoke came out from under that Switch Assembly (not good). The starter did quit running and I was able to ride home. Now I' m looking for a new assembly. Question-has anyone just added an aftermarket DPST momentary switch for that starter switch? This site is great! Thanks.
