New Ohio Goldwing Owner

Postby ohiobiker » Tue Feb 08, 2011 7:34 am

I just purchased a 1984 GL1200 Interstate here in Ohio. I can't wait til this snow melts so I can finally ride it. My big question is, should I join a Goldwing club in the area? I have looked at the clubs online and I am not sure if its for me. Any suggestions?

welcome to the forum, I joined just a couple of weeks ago. You get out of it what you put into it. Particpate in the discussions, and if someone doesn't like what you've posted, it's okay, they are entitled to their opinion just like you are entitled to yours. Have fun and be like a sponge and soak it all up. I'm a member of GWRRA and I belong mainly for the magazine (it has good points and bad points) and for the "Gold Book". This is a book of members of GWRRA state by state and how they can help you if you are in trouble on the road. Another GW forum I frequent is the gl1800riders.com forum and the sponsor of that forum is Direct Line Parts and they are a very good source for parts and accessories for just about all makes of bike. Enjoy the bike, I know I enjoy mine.

Thanks for the advice. I am looking forward to reading the forum and learn more about Goldwings. I have had numerous bikes in the past, but it seems a Goldwing owner has that connection with another Goldwing owner that intriques me. I have seen the Goldwing owners in the past and present expand more into riding together. The idea of joining the GWRRA seems logical, but, I don't want to feel since I don't have that $32,000.00 Goldwing not to be able fit in. I have a t-shirt that says..$30,000.00 and 30 miles doesn't make you a biker. :D But the idea of gaining knowledge about Goldwings is my highest priority.

Thanks for the replies. This forum seems to be the starting point on asking questions about the Goldwings. Once we get above our 6 degree weather here I may have the chance to enjoy the bike! Hope where ever you are, you drive safe and enjoy the ride!

Welcome to the group. I live outside Toledo in Oregon, on Lake Erie. Let me know when you want to hook up. I usually go just about every weekend, weather permitting. I don't mind getting wet but I don't like it needlessly and don't like when I'm cold too. Sometimes with sometimes without riding companions. Either way, I love riding. I have a 93 SE and an 02 VTX retro. Try these groups too. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/http://www.northamericangoldwings.com/http://classicgoldwings.com/forum/index.php?sid=d73cf55f78e742392bc8a3988a1b6a1bTheres a ton more, these are just a couple.

Hey, ohiobiker! I reside in ohio as well. as far as joining up with a group. like me, i have pondered this question in my mind as well. My own decision was that if i join a group of riders it should make no difference what i ride. And as long as i'm involved in a riding group. It may as well be a group of riders with a noble cause and not just an occasional trip to the "Dairy Queen" one hundred miles away in another community. i have found such a group. am a member. i ride to raise money for our veterans. all summer long! there is no more noble cause while riding a motorcycle. get back to me and i will post the link to the group i ride with here in Ohio. Welcome Ohio rider. I grew up in Cleveland but now live in Southwest Florida (Venice, just south of Sarasota) and will be riding your way in June after going to Rolling Thunder. My son and family lives in Arkon and my brother is still in Cleveland. Down here I ride my '06 all year long.

Well after fighting this cold weather I finally got my Goldwing looking good. I replaced the seat cover, added some chrome, and cleaned it up. I actually rode it to work yesterday for the first time!

:) Welcome to the site! It dosent matter what you paid for your ride or even what year it is. I have an 84 gl1200I myself. I think the older bikes have more class ;) Mine didn't cost me much at all since I traded my 83 Vf1100 Magna for it. I only paid $500 for it! Being older bikes, you have alot less electroics to go wrong, and it's a hole lot eaiser for us to work on. I live in elkhart Ind. so if you come around this way, look me up!
How many times do I have to tell ya,,, The right tool for the right job!
