Kuryakyn wiring pigtail

Postby crock4 » Wed Feb 09, 2011 8:01 am

I ride a 2001 Goldwing. My wife, and I enjoy weekend cruising. I have added a lot of aftermarket parts including quite a few Kuryakyn lights. The problem I had was when I bought the trunck lights they supplied a pig tail which allows you to add other lights without having to do any wiring. Just a simple plug in. I thought hey this is great. Well in the process of adding additional lights the tabs on the pigtail, which are pretty flimsy, broke off so the plugs come apart. I tried taping them together, but this does not hold them securely. I have resisted hard wiring because I don't want to start splicing wires which could lead to future problems. I contacted Kuryakn about buying another pigtail from them, and the best their tech could come up with was. 1) Your the only guy weve ever heard of that has ever broken these tabs. 2) Sorry we don't sell the pigtail seperately. 3) Try tape or a ziptye.

Does anyone out there have any idea where I could find something like this?

Can you post a picture of the problem connector and broken part?

Thank you for your reply. Sorry but this is the best I can do, I am pretty computer illiterate, but if you go to http://www.Kuryakyn.com/documents/insta ... L-0702.PDF then open the first pdf-3201 website it will be picture 4. It is the black connectors.

If you're really against hard-wiring it (which would be the most secure, reliable method, assuming it's soldered), you should be able to get any set of two-conductor connectors and wire them in. A two-conductor trailer-type connector would work well, and would be reasonably weatherproof.

Thanks for your comments. Today is my day off so I am going to fix this one way or the other. Sometimes thinking about a problem, and talking to other people about it makes me more creative in my solutions. At any rate this forum is great, and I'm glad I found it.

I know you probably have fixed the problem by now but just wanted to let you know that Kuryakyn is the worst company to deal with. First thing I did was quit buying any thing from them and started looking for manufactures that will stand behind their products. If you check some older posts on Kuryakyn chrome you will see what I mean. Would not have another piece of their junk on my bike in the future. When it needs replacing I will use another brand. I just want to let others know how bad they are.
