Friendly Advice From A Local ? (AZ)

Postby landisr » Sat Apr 02, 2011 1:55 pm

Howdy. Our daughter's wedding is on May 28th out in the Phoenix area, which is fairly well into hot weather out there, especially for us Yankees. The ceremony will be outside, on a golf fairway, with no shade. Soooo, with at least a half dozen attendees in their 80s or 90s, do you know of anything we can do to keep them cool for 2030 minutes? I'm thinking we could start with little battery operated fans. Do you have any further suggestions beside large floppy hats?

TIA. Ron in MI

Rent/borrow a collapsable canopy and chairs, and kick all the lazy assss, overweight, younger age people out of the shade. Make sure there is several coolers with water. Rent/borrow large floor fans. Allow guests to bring small umbrellas. Buy and hand out individual oriental style hand fans.

Agree with Dan on the canopy and large fans, if need be rent a small Honda generator that's pretty quite for the juice. Might want to keep a Golf cart or two onhand in case you have to move the elders back inside to cool down. Good luck!

jbrackett is on to something... if you have the time and some extra money in the budget has a mister kit and supplies to make the same misters you see at all the amusement parks down south to keep the customers cool while waiting in line

Go to and take a look at the starter kit and decide if it will work for you.... evaporative cooling is extremely efficient and if there is a source of water nearby would work rather well to keep everyone cool...

Just my $0.02, hope it can help and congrats by the way...
