Hello I'm new and have a quick question

Postby RexAubrey » Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:29 pm

Hello, I just bought a 83 GL1000I on Ebay, I know, I know, but i couldn't pass it up at the price ;)

I currently have a short list of things to check and/or repair when i pick up the bike next week. Check tires, drain and clean tank and carbs, change oil and plugs, check fuel lines, timing belts, Throttle cable (current owner states cable is stuck). Any other suggestions as to what to check prior to doing more than a, around the block, shakedown.

This is my first Gold Wing and my first shaft drive bike. I previously had a 72 Honda CB360T that I rode from Gulfport, MS to Buffalo, NY in November, 3 weeks after buying the bike  . I also have a Yamaha Maxim 550 that is currently in the back of my garage and is in need of a rebuild.

I have looked over the site for the past 2 days and see that there is a lot of help here. I will try not to abuse the help too much.

Thanks

RexAubrey

Replace the brake fluid and test the braking system.Check the stator plug next to the battery,if it's an original plug, cut it off and solder the 3 yellow wires together.Get rid of the plug(the main source of charging problems.Sync the carbs when the time comes.

We don't mind the questions.

Your message says you have an 83 GL1000I, and your profile says you have an 81 GL1000...except that in both 1981 and 1983, Honda made GL1100's, not GL1000's. :) Are you sure you have a GL1000?

Ok, I can clear this up... i was going to buy a 81 and misread the listing as a GL1000. that is when i joined here. i have since bought the 83 GL1100i and am fixing my profile.
Thanks for reminding me that i have to fix the profile... :D

Welcome to he board. Sorry I can be of no help with anything older than a GL1800.
