How Silly

Postby Very-Old-Gold-Rider » Wed Jun 01, 2011 12:59 pm

How silly is it that we have to make a post in order to enter a drawing.

I don't have to do that at the Banjo Hang Out. I just submit my name, which is all we should be required to do with this site.

They are trying to encourage use of the site, and worthwhile contributions.

I think it's very fair, the people that contribute to the forum should be given a chance to win a little something. Just being a member of the forum and not posting anything should not enter you into the draw, we are trying to keep the forum alive and growing, that means we need to encourage participation..

EVERY post you make gets you another entry. That way it means those who participate most on the forum have a better chance of winning.

That said, feel free to create, maintain, and pay for your own web site, buy prizes out of your own pocket, and run your contests any way you see fit. :)

Here's my post for the "win"!! :D
Going on a short group ride tonight. Right now the temp. is pushing 90 degrees.
I hope both my bike and I can make it without a heat related problem.
Took a short ride this afternoon to fill up and my temp gauge stayed at 3 bars the whole trip.
That gives me some comfort.

Nothing wrong with having to post something to be eligible to win. Kind of like having to be present to win a prize.

I also have no problem with the policy of "post to win". Nothing wrong with that.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow,What a ride!"

I mind. I hate sifting thru the dribble. Apart from that, this site rocks! Lots of relevant information.

Hey all, No Nose Pete minds...well, you know what that means...we must all re-evaluate our way of thinking. 90% of folks think it's a good idea that you must post something to win. That being said, since No Nose is in the minority, and in todays politically correct mentality, we must agree with him...no matter how wrong he is.

Silly to me how your first post is a complaint about "having" to post.
Welcome to the site, your "contributions" will be more than appreciated. By the way what is the Banjo Hang Out anyway?

I often wonder what qualify's!! I rarely start my own thread but always try to give help to existing threads, but the contest software often tells me I have zero messages entered (so is it only new posts that you start that count for the competition?).

As soon as you have registered, it should show a count of all the messages you have posted during that calendar month. If it's the first of the month, and you haven't posted anything yet that month, and you just registered, it should show zero. But that count should go up throughout the month - it should never show zero if you have posted that month! Is it doing that for you?

I haven't looked at it for this month, but on previous months it has.. Just wondered what kind of messages counted. Thanks for clarifying, I will keep an eye on it going forward and will let you know if I see an issue!! Thanks WingAdmin.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^WHAT HE SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Go buy your own site and contribute the money to buy the prizes that no one will ever share in because all they have to do to win is join. He!!s bells, I'll join a site like that if I have a chance to win even if my interests have nothing to do with the content of the site. Sounds fair to me!!!!!!! AND I JUST WON LAST MONTHS DRAWING!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEENER, NEENER, NEENER. And by the way, heres my post for THIS months drawing.

Hey Hal, great attitude. Thanks for your help to me in the past.
Isn't that why were all here in the first place...to learn from each other AND to help where we can??
Now, having said that, I am beginning to think this entire post is getting rather silly. Let's move on to another, more relevant topic, ok guys??
No need to fight and bash each other.

Ahhhh.... Lilbeaver you crack me up. Keep posting man. I'm not trying to be negative, but I do think we are beating a dead horse here about posting or not posting to win something or not. It's kinda like which oil is the best, or tire manufacturer. You'll get all kinds of answers and none of them are wrong. So, I'll keep reading these posts and I'll keep posting to learn something, AND I also hope to win something. (last year I won a battery tender jr., yay!!!)

Hmmmm...looks like we are starting a new thread. I like Reeses Peanut Butter cups and bananas for "snacking". Popcorn is good too. Trouble is, popcorn makes me thirsty then i drink things are not good for me.
