Airbag --- Not worth it

Postby goldwinger2929 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:39 pm

How many new Goldwing purchasers that included the air bag option did not know that if you decide to trike your ride-----you loose the airbag? Why doesn't Honda tell, explain, or advise future purchasers that it is a problem to trike your bike after you pay for the added protection.

What's the scoop with the negative air bag if you trike your bike?

Had never heard that but good to know. Not that I would buy an airbag model anyway. Not worth it to begin with IMHO.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow,What a ride!"

It seems like there are many things that you loose when you modify your wing.
If you trike it, you loose your warranty, and it looks like your airbag.
If you change seats, you loose your heated grips and heated seats.
If you chrome it with Kuryakyn chrome you loose your money and the chrome.

I think the reason most don't tell you about these things is because they are out to sell you something, and if they don't sell you on it they make nothing.

It seems like everyone could of saved hundreds of dollars when they purchased their GW. Could of used it for more chrome but of course you cannot add any chrome to front fender because of the airbag, another item they forget to tell you. The only benifit I saw was an additional safety aspect added to the bike. I guess back then safety was more important than the thoughts of having it triked.

looks like the price of the new wing may just price people out of the market anyways.. I may start to look at BMW next bike I find they are a little less expensive. And the new GTL1600 pretty nice.... Sally

For now, Big Bird will probably be my last bike. The extra cost for the air bag spread out over many years is additional protection that is well worth it to me.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. BF

Actually it shouldn't be Honda's problem. It should be the Trike dealer's responsibility to tell you that installing their kit will require the removing of the Honda air bag. There may be a trike conversion out there that doesn't interfear with the air bag.
