2 close 4 comfort X2

Postby biker4christ » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:45 am

2 close calls in 2 wks ,,wats up with the deer. last week goin thru kansas it just rained and we waited out the worst and hit the road again, rode around 15 min in slight rain around 10 pm,just west of Pratt Ks.it just quit rainin and all was good, then a HUGE deer blasted out across the road, was runnin aroun 70 just missed him by prob 15 ft,but at 70 mph it seemed like 2feet.
then yest, just on the outskirts of town, luckily i was only runnin bout 45 this time and another close one, this time it seemed mere inches, but it was bout 8 ft in front, just glad i was only doin 45,just a few saconds and a couple mph more and im sure i woulda nail him,or vice vesre..
i need to make the wing LOUDER,,lol,, never seemed as bad on the H-D,but it had dragpipes so it prob scared em off ,, or maybe the deer just plain dont like honda's,lol
im def goin huntin this yr,,maybe thin the herd and better my chances.
ride safe and watchout,i think they are out to get us

I don't live in an area with deer running around it, but I have friends upstate that have had success with devices like these mounted on their cars/trucks(maybe they can be put on your bike??):

They use the air rushing past the bike to produce a "whistling" sound that scares the deer... (at least that's what they are SUPPOSED to do)

I have heard that the deer whistles can actually increase the chance of hitting a deer. Something about making them notice you and they run out in front of you.
I know of some one that installed them on his car and after that he hit two or three dear. He took them off and has had little trouble since.
The other thing is, When you see the deer on the road, aim for where they are, as by the time you get there they will be gone and less chance of colliding. Not sure it it works but just something I heard.
To bad that you are not closer, as my brother would like to help thin out that herd. He loves to hunt them and a full freezer isn't bad either. Venison makes a good meal.

We live in an area with high deer density. The other evening I was returning home on WV 62 and had to slow down for deer at least four times. I just keep my speed around 45 on this road after dark and hug the center line.

ya i kinda tend to hug the center also seems to give more room for a quick swerve if needed :D
