Confused

Postby TonyR » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:30 pm

I just bought a 1977 Goldwing.
It says on the frame 1977 GL1300 ....I thought these were 1000s or 1100s.
What is up with the frame stamp. On my CX500 the serial # starts 1978 CX500 ....

The engine is frozen so I am going to fill it with penetrating oil, wait a week or so, and then try rocking it to break it free. I have not dropped the oil or anything else, yet.
I am sure I will have questions but between the excellent articles here and the CX500 forum I hope to not bug y'all too much.
Thanks
Tony

Y'All probably already know this but I stumbled on this page while reading another thread:

http://www.randakks.com/TechTip82.htm

Answers my question.
It is a GL1000 K2 apparently.

It looks like i should change the timing belts before I even try to turn it over. That is a$$uming the engine breaks free.

Good work on the research. Most of us know of Randall Washington. You might want to go ahead and remove the timing belt covers and check the belts. If a belt is broken that may be why the engine is locked up. Pistons butting against valves. Probably not but wouldn't hurt to check.
