Went to my local Honda dealership today

Postby Fritz The Cat » Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:56 pm

I haven't been there in over 2 years and was promptly reminded why.

They're thieves.

They did not have the first new Goldwing on the showroom floor, but they had a used one. a 2008 with 11,000 miles on it. The price tag said - $22,990. Actually, they had about 3 times as many used bikes in the showroom as new.

They're also a Yamaha dealer so they had a mix of both. Most were low end bikes. My buddy was looking for a Yamaha Venture, the sales lady said she never heard of it. I almost laughed out loud.

I checked prices in their riding accessories also and all their stuff was way over priced.

The economy being what it is (Saturday afternoon and we were their may have been 7 people all total in there), How do dealers like this stay in business?

I think what they do or how they stay in business is by getting the guy's that are new to the cycle World the guy's that just don't know any better...Or don't mind paying a premium price for stuff because it's right there in front of them and they don't have to order it..And they want it now..I often wonder how they stay afloat too. Having to pay the mechanics [highdollar dudes] and the shop rental unless they own it, yep, I'm glad there are shops still opened because I just went down today and bought a oil filter for my 81.. I guess times are tough everwhere...

That's a gouging if that's a basic Wing, according to my NADA Appraisal Guide the retail on the bike is $17,295.00 and as a trade in they probably gave the owner less than $14,815.00 and the suggested list price when new was $19,599.00. It does sound like they're looking for 'Newbies'. The sales staff sounds very well informed  especially when the sell Yamaha and they don't know what the Venture is  .

Yea, it was the low end model. Dunno where they got that price but I wouldn't even begin negotiations from there. But like I've always said. When I do move up to an 1800, I'll have a nice, long ride back cause nobody close to here is interested in selling bikes.

"Never heard of a Venture"

I would have walked out at that point. Either they are too dumb to deal with, or they think you are dumb. Either way, not worth talking to.

I did have a car salesman tell me once (I was looking for a Suburban with the 2nd row bench seat instead of buckets, that he didn't have in stock) that I shouldn't buy one of those because Chevy didn't put seat belts in the middle position of the bench seat.

This is the Venture -

Not for me tho. It's about the same price as a Goldwing so what's the point?
