Film deposit on Windshield - My first post

Postby Papa G » Sat Jul 02, 2011 2:56 pm

I bought a used GL1800 with about 24K mi. - really clean. :D I got a new silver K*******n cover for it. It is really hot here and after sitting in the heat for awhile, there is a now "film" deposit on the windshield. :( What is the best/safest way to clean and polish it?

I use 210 Plastic Polish from Sumner Laboratories. http://www.sumnerlaboratories.com/.
You can also try Meguiars Plastic Cleaner and Polish http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_raves.cfm?raveslist=M1008&ProdName=Clear+Plastic+Polish. It is available in most auto supply stores.

Thanks for the tips MikeB. I'll try the 210 Plastic Polish if I can buy it by the can somewhere. It sound like a good product, but Sumner Laboratories only sell it by the case ($85 + shipping).

I use Plastix cleaner..You can buy it at most any Wal-mart, auto parts store, or auto detailing shop. I used it on the lightbars on the ambulances when i was chief...took out the haze and made them clear up

The individual cans are sold by Tulsa Enterprises. However shipping is usually prohibitive and raises the price to near $ 14 a can. What I do is go ahead and buy it by the case and sell the individual cans to friends at $ 11 a can. I break even that way and retain as many cans as I feel is nedded. We also have it in our Chapter Stores so it is usually available at a reasonable price.

I had the same issue with my bike it sat for 7 years and had a heavy film on the windsheild, I have a wash tube sink and filled it with medium hot water and laundry soap then let the windsheild soak overnight the film cam off with a rag and some elbow grease looks great now :D

Pledge furniture polish works great on windshields. The regular kind leaves a bit of an oily film, which is great if you're in rain, but it attracts dust quickly, and requires you to have to clean your windshield at least daily.

They also sell Pledge "multi-surface cleaner" which works just as well, but without the oily film. I've been using it for over a year now.
