GL1800 Seat Height

Postby kerrsys » Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:01 pm

Taller rider, cramped seating...What's the most effective way to get about two inches higher and 2 inches further back? Thinking about WingSoft. Want to know if it will do the trick Any Thoughts?

Most people take the seat to an auto/boat etc upholstery shop and have the seat modified, what they do on the 1800 is the take the back wedge off the seat and by removing the wedge it gives you a couple of inches further to sit back.

Sounds like a good idea trike lady. I too am a little cramped in the seat. Not vertical, but horizontal due to too many pork chops. Any idea how much something like that might cost?

One of the people I knew took it to a shop and they modified the seat for $50.00 but this was a year and a half ago.
This was on the Florida west coast where I used to live.

Sally, not to sound dumb (I guess I am), but, how do you lower the pegs?

I don't know how that would work as far as clearance. I have boards, and they drag now. The way I need to go I think is back a little. Then I may have an issue with the rider backrest. It seems everytime I want to do one thing it creates two or more other issues to deal with. Thank you Sally for the suggestion though. I need all the help I can get, and this forum is a great source of ideas. I would like to know how you lowered the pegs also. Just out of curiousity.

Right off I can't remember the name brand I'll try to find the infor. but in one of the GW magazines or companies like big bike parts, jake wilson, chrome world or in the back of Wingworld mag.I found a place that had chrome lowwering kits 1 or 2 " kits. You just remove your foot pegs install these brackets and re install your pegs.. Maybe a goggle search.. If I find some thing I'll post it ... Sally

If you can find an upholsterer to modify your seat and cover for $50 you are doing well. Most bike places charge more.

Check out Mean City Cycles http://www.meancitycycles.com/ I understand they do excellent work.

There are lots of aftermarket seats out there. I went with Hartco http://www.hartcoseats.com/ They are not cheap. Hartco will make the seat to your dimensions. My seat is 3" taller and 1.5" further back than stock. They also modify the pass backrest to make a little more room.

I have also heard good things about the Russell Day-long seat http://www.day-long.com/

It seems that Corbin's better idea is to move the seating position down and forward, and that doesn't work for my 38" inseam.

Bear in mind that when you change the seat position, you may want to change other things. My really expensive seat prompted me to add a taller windshield and bar risers.

So you can make the bike pretty much anyway you want....depends on how much money you want to throw at it.

You may have a clearance issue with the lowering bracket and aquashield, but this is the product being offered.

Trike Lady, thanks for the link to the peg lowering accessory...unclear about aquashield clearance. I hope it works.
