Welcome to the club.. Hows the weather up in your neck of the woods? It has been over 100F here for the last 2 months or more so haven't ridden much as it's just too hot!!

Thanks for the Welcome Gary.
I have been to Austen Texas quite a few times with work as a truck driver,
now I haul fuel locally and have time to ride some.

it has not been a very nice summer here, been really cold, the last couple weeks it's been around 75 to 80F so that's riding temperature,
I'm just waiting for my new alternator to show up and put my bike back together..

here's a couple pics..
My new to me ride

Another Texan here sayin howdy.
One look at that pic with the bike torn down and I sure am glad I decided to go with the poorboy conversion. I could probably tear it apart, but it would stay that way until I hauled it to the jun yard. I'm not very good at putting things back together. Seems I break more than I fix, and either have a lot of leftover parts, or come up way short one of the two.
Since you are doing that yourself, I am sure you have read enough about the cause being the 3 yellow wires (connectors) and connectors to rectifier that should be eliminated and soldered as a solid connection. That way you don't have to go through this again is 20,000 or so miles. Hope you get it together to do a little more riding while you still have the weather.

just an update, got the new stator in and the bike all back together, fired it up and it's not charging properly so tested the regulator and it tested fine, thought just for the heck of it would test the stator.
who would have guessed it, it was defective and I have to pull the engine again to install the replacement..

I have learned so much about my bike this year with doing the Mechanics work on it this summer, and I'm not scared to tackle it at all especially with all the help available.

I'll keep you up to date..

I will see if the replacement stator is good and if there are any more issues then I will be doing that and a friend of mine has one available.
but for now I would like to try and keep my bike stock as it is registered as a collector with a collector plate..

Sorry to hear about the stator, but it's good to see you have the enthusiasm to tear into it again.. Before you know it, it will be fixed and running again.. Then you need to put some miles on it.. Always room in Texas for a few visitors.. Let us know if you make it down this way and need somewhere to hang your hat for a few days..

yes I actually love working on these bikes, it is not a hardship for me..

and thanks for the invite Gary, I have travel many miles through Texas as a truck driver in my many years of driving but now work close to home where I now have time to have a bike a ride it.
I am sure that we will get a chance at some time to travel through Texas on the bike instead of the truck and would love the chance to meet you.
I will post some picture when it's up and running again, this time the pictures will be of me on the bike instead of seeing it in pieces..

thank you. nice to hear you still have nice riding weather..
we are actually going to be riding in the "Toy Run" next weekend, I'm looking forward to that since it will be my first one..
actually the weather here is not bad in the winter, we can get riding in most every month of the year.
I work with a couple guys that are "fare weather riders" but that is not me, I don't mind riding even if it's kinda cool or in light rain..
